Yes I have this posted to the right forum, no I won't be spaming any more guidelines to the forums. honest :-)

Thanks Narc for the new forum.
(my sphere of influence is spreading mwahahaha!)

I still think it'd be a great idea to mark our posts with the level(s) that are to be discussed. that will help keep those wanting to talk about the Halo levels, from inadvertently looking at a post that is about a level past there current one. It’ll also help people find levels they want to talk about.

Just an idea :-)

That said, we really should stop posting on this thread othrewise you'll break Narcogen's script.

The rocket launcher is called the SPNKR on the ammo boxes in the game. Hmmmm. Didn't know if it's in the manual or not, sorry if this is a waste of time. Just trying to break in the forums.

Cortana hacks into the (unencrypted) Covenant network and finds out that the Covenant have named the ringworld "Halo" and that it has some religious meaning. She goes on to say that it's a weapon...

I am on the level "If I had a Superweapon" and I'm having a hard time coping with a ton of Covenant. ;)

Great game though.

I think he is. I'm getting close, but I'm having to do in the stores until hannuka and/or my purchase of the x-box itself.

In reply to: Re: So tell me, What is it all about?

So basically you find out the Covenant see Halo as some religious artifact, it's a weapon. Later on you set off to find Keyes and a bunch of marines because Cortana hooked herself up into the control room's computer and saw terrible things at the place Keyes was.

So you are there and realise the place looks like there's been a huge battle. It's really creepy. At one point you find the helmet of a fallen solider off which you get his helmet recording. What follows is a cool way of displaying what happened. Via the helmet cam you see how Keyes and the marines moved in, and at one point all these small aliens come scuttering out of nowhere. These are not Covenant. These are the flood.

After escaping that death trap you meet the monitor, a floating orb with an annoying personality whom you follow into the library. There you get to fight a ton of flood aliens and possessed covenant and marines all while following that damn floating orb around. He tells you about the ring and library and the flood and how you must retrieve the index so that Halo can get rid of the flood.

You manage to get the index from the library and you're teleported to the control room (why didn't that damn orb teleport me to the index?!!). There you insert the index but Cortana stops whatever was supposed to happen, revealing that Halo is used to wipe out every living thing in a 24 lightyear radius. Halo was made to make sure the flood, who feed on living things, die of starvation when all their food is gone. You and Cortana rebel against the monitor, and he goes against you.

You then set off to disrupt Halo's reactors while battling Covenant and the flood who also battle each other. Then you go for a Covenant ship you were on before to again get to Keyes because he has authorisation codes for detonating the core of the Autumn, but you see he's not human anymore but part of the flood (some kind of large bloated immobile thing, dunno what happened). You rip his implant out for the codes and he dies. After that you head for the crashed Autumn to make its core detonate thus destroying Halo. But the monitor stops that so you go for firing rockets at its core, causing the ship's core to break down etc. You then make a frantic escape with a warthog, the dropship that you were supposed to escape with gets destroyed so you head for a really cool-looking spacecraft and escape with that.

Enter the cool cinematic of Halo breaking up. You destroyed Halo and a whole armada of Covenant, but at a cost of losing any surviving marines. Off you fly. After the credits you see the monitor fly around in space.

I might have missed something but that's the gist of it all.

Hey, is it just me or was the whole story a major let down? I mean I still don't know anymore about the Covenant than I did 8 months ago and the flood as a race seems pretty uninspired (weren't these guys in half-life?). Then it's never explained HOW the Halo is a weapon..it just is. Oh and the Forerunner? Yeah, they (it?) have the power to wipe out all intelligent life in 24 light years but they can't take just go in and kill every single Flood?
Halo 2: Guilty Spark goes to one of the other Halo rings and continues his mission to wipe out all life. *yawn*

I was expecting more.

Harry's picture

In reply to: Re: OK, here goes (spoilers)

Eh, I thought the plot was fine. I at first thought the forerunners would be woken up from all the fighting and would be pissy thus attacking both humans and Covenant, or whatever. But this plot was pretty good anyhow.

I guess killing the flood without Halo is hard, since they're in such a huge number. So what do they do? Starve the buggers by obliterating anything they could devour.

Yeah but how does the Halo kill all sentient life? Was that explained? And did Cortana say there was more than one ring or am I just imagining things again?

The exact mechanics of the Halo are not detailed in the game (unfortunately), but it doesn't simply target sentient life. That's like saying a nuclear weapon only targets soldiers. When the Halo is activated, it targets a much more general audience.

Anyway, we leave quite a bit unsaid. You compare the Flood to the headcrabs in HalfLife, which is fair enough based on appearance alone, but is really about as accurate as saying the Covenant are like the Pfhor, because they're bipeds. The Flood is something altogether nastier, and I rather hope we elaborate a bit more on that at some point.
