Will Halo 3 feature proximity voice and teamspeak features the way Halo 2 does?

Again, Bungie has said nothing yet, but here's hoping they change things. Speech in Halo 2, in my opinion, doesn't work terribly well. Enemies can always hear you within a given radius, even through structures, while the interface requires you to specifically signal that you want to communicate to remote teammates-- and even when you do so, nearby enemies can still overhear you.

It would seem reasonable that an advanced Spartan suit would have some means of communicating covertly with allies, nearby or remote. The value of proximity voice is primarily for obscene taunts, and the risk of enemies overhearing you through proximity voice discourages its use for actual communication between teammates.

In short, when you push a button, you should be able to communicate to teammates and enemies should not be able to hear-- as would be the case if you were using an external voice program such as TeamSpeak.

UPDATE: According to the December 2006 issue of EGM, the current alpha build of Halo 3 has voice features that work just like they did in Halo 2.

Proximity Problems

I'm british and it pisses me off when you get those people who use proximity voice to find this out and insult you about it until the end of the game. It should be a feature you can turn off - or they should at least make proximity turn off once you press team talk.

Re: Proximity Problems

I tend to agree with you about the feature, even if I haven't particularly had to worry about that particular reason.

I suppose all anyone can say is what Major Nelson always says: leave feedback. The system doesn't work unless we use it.

Rampant for over se7en years.
