Q&A with Bungie's Max Hoberman

by Ferrex (Dead)

Regdren =PN=: My question is: will Bungie still be able to toy with its fans? We all know about Letters to the Webmaster. Will Microsoft allow that sort of thing? And will Bungie play games with us like those Covenant quotes when Halo was announced?
      yeroen: Ferrex: Yes, that's correct.

Q&A with Bungie's Max Hoberman

by Ferrex (Dead)

This chat log comes from a question and answer session with Bungie employees Max and, at points, Chucky. Most of the questions are related to the Microsoft purchase of Bungie, but you'll find that the topics stray fairly often. Our thanks to Max and Chucky for sharing this information with the 250+ who were logged into RHL during the session:

Sorry about that, I missed an important detail. PC users, this announcement most likely applies to you too--if Bungie produces Halo for the Mac, they will almost certainly produce it for the PC as well. We're trying to see how this affects release dates, but Hallelujah! Wheee!

As the servers slowly move over (the domains have propagated as far as Canada, so you should all be able to reach them), the Bungie crew is moving over and in too. Asked on RHL what the new digs were like, Jaime of the Halo team had this to say:

Reports are coming in that Bungie's web servers have come back online, though some people (myself included) are still waiting for the domain to propagate. Bungie.net shouldn't be far behind, though there may be a few complications with the new location and the hardcoded addresses inside of Myth. Stay tuned for updates over the next day or two.

If you're trying to get through, you can shake your fist at Mother Nature. The b.org websites are suffering a bit of storm induced downtime, but should be back in the thick of things relatively quickly. You can't keep a good server down... unless you're a rampant AI or something, in which case that sucker is toast.

This news story brought to you by the letters M, S, and the number 7. Marathon's Story has picked up an eerie banner that blends elements of tangerine iMac, unsettling Microsoft, and the Sacred Number. On the other hand, this might be for something completely different...

Kudos to kuniklo, who posted an interesting tidbit from PlanetXBox concerning id's John Carmack and the XBox. The relevant portion:

KillerMac has posted a tongue in cheek parody of Bungie's www.bungie.com site, outlining what one might say is the 'worst case scenario'. An excerpt:

4/16 - Bill Gates tells WWII: Recon mapmaking group to package Internet Explorer with their plugin or he will destroy them

If the MS-Bungie thing still sits uneasily with you, you may want to pass this one up. But if you do go, be sure to take a look at the roll-over on Bungie's logo... hee!
