Transcription of "Greatest Journey", by Marty O'Donnell, transcribed by Mike Poe.

This song can be heard during the second half of the final level of halo 3 "Halo"

I've spent quite a few hours trying to get it to sound as close to the real thing as possible, i hope u enjoy it.

-I've made the changes suggested in the comment section (bar 41 switched to minor, as well as a few revisions in the trumpet and percussion parts and overall sound quality.)

comment with more suggestions,if need be

Really good job, but I have 2 suggestions:

Add 2 more measures of drums and the vocals fading out after measure 14 before the cellos come in (listen to this and compare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKz65EWl7Yo)That's how it sounds in-game.

In measure 83, you have the strings (inluding the harp) going (descending) B F# D B F# D B
Instead, try replacing the D's with E's (B F# E B F# E B)

You might also want to take a look at Jonathan Churchill's One Final Effort to get that Harp at the very end right.

But other than that, you did a great job.

thanks for the link, i had always wanted to do it as it was in-game but since it wasnt in the ost it was annoying to keep reverting to check point to hear the parts over again, so i gave up and comprimised with the beginning vocals and then the song in the soundtrack... however ill probably go back and do the in-game version now that i can rewind on the youtube link

After I had picked up my jaw from the ground, I said Wow.

I'm new to rampancy.com and so far I haven't figured out how to download the files. When I pick a piece all it does is show forum options. I really want to get this music ><.>

in bar 41 for the strings, it should be a little different (it sounds major here, it should be minor)

sub par by far....im tired of people who post renditions and sheet music who have no music background whatsoever...where the hell is the cello solo at the beginning where the chief is holding seargant johnson? the first minute and a half is god awful, and the piano solo at the end is off at the very beginning....disappointing to say the least.

I don't recall having written anywhere that my transcriptions are the standard by which all else is judged, far from it. I would say, with a few exceptions, that most of the sheet music on this site is not professional grade and it is not neccesarily meant to be. There are no regulations or written out expectations regarding the admission of the sheet music on this site. In addition to many other things it is a place for people to post Halo sheet music that they would like to share with those who may be interested. This being said, I find it hard to understand exactly what you are upset about. You were not cheated or ripped off in that you did not pay to see or hear my transcription, it is posted for all members to view for free. If what I have posted here does not meet your standards, then by all means, look elsewhere for a less "disappointing" transcription.

hey, i was reviewing your score and i did not see the first vocal and violin part (apx the 1st min of the song). how did you transcribe it, was it from the soundtrack?

Pengy's picture

Hey, good job. Just a couple of really minor qualms:

1. Some of the dynamics were a bit off ( i.e. Forte-Piano at measure 77) (This is a really minor issue)

2. Seemed to be missing some harmony near the end.

All in all, excellent job!

iH8MorningWood's picture

hey, great transcription of the piece. but i saw that it didnt have the chorus and violin part that should be at the beginning. you should look into that, because if you can transcribe that, it would sound really nice.
overall, really nice job!

Jaing's picture

I think that's pretty darn accurate, but the strings should have stacatto on some notes as they tend to echo some of the time. Nice arrangement. And some notes should be accented as the music crescendos also.

LacAgar's picture

Make just a piano version and then you'd have my thumbs up but for now its staying down lol.
