This is just my theory, but I think it is true- have you caught that the sarge and the elite have the same grenade death scream? weoaaAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHhhhhhhh.... (high-pitched kind of for the main sarge- not Stacker LOL) The Elite is the same only lower because it is. Also, I read in an EGM (an electronic gaming monthly magazine) that the Elite's speech is backwards. He (or she i guess) talks backwards. Ex: Wart Wart Wart! Means Go! Go! GO!! when u reverse it on a .wav file. Also, if you do reverse something, soundwaves are brought in backwards so *i think* they are lower-pitched. Kool, huh? Weird.

This is, in fact, true, and has been known for about a year.
Bungie had originally planned to invent a completely new language for the Elites to speak, but were short of time and this was the compromise they came up with.
Elites, however, do occasionally speak English. After killing the MC, for instance, sometimes an Elite will say "lousy piece of crap."
